The Story:

SLEEPING WITH THE CLIENT

Chapter 1:

The Perfect Face for the Job

Matt Stevens never dreamed he’d end up working in advertising. After scraping by in college with a liberal arts degree and a resume padded with restaurant gigs, landing a job at Beacon Agency felt like winning the lottery. But three years in, his peers were rising through the ranks while Matt remained stagnant. His charm and good looks, once a novelty, no longer shielded him from the growing expectations of his boss, Gerald, and the agency’s most powerful client: Andrea McAllister.

Andrea was everything Matt feared in a client: cold, cutting, and utterly unflappable. As the CMO of a billion-dollar brand, she demanded perfection. Her biting critiques during campaign reviews left everyone trembling.

“Gerald wants me to smooth things over with her,” Matt told his coworker Lisa over drinks. “How the hell am I supposed to do that?”

Lisa raised an eyebrow. “You mean other than doing your job?”

But Matt knew his job wasn’t enough. His career depended on Andrea, and if charm was his only weapon, then he’d have to use it.

Chapter 2: The Ice Queen Melts

Andrea was used to being feared. She built her career on intimidation and razor-sharp instincts. But at 48, her power came at a cost—she was lonely. Nights at her penthouse felt hollow, and she avoided relationships, knowing most men were either intimidated by her success or interested only in her money.

That’s why Matt’s attention caught her off guard. At a tense dinner meeting, he complimented her vision with a sincerity she didn’t expect. He made her laugh—a rarity—and when their hands brushed as he passed her a glass of wine, she felt a spark she hadn’t felt in years.

Later that evening, she received a text from Matt:

“I meant what I said. You’re brilliant. If I can help ease the pressure, let me know.”

Her reply was uncharacteristically vulnerable:

“Meet me in my office tomorrow at 9 PM. No one else.”

That night, Andrea let down her guard, and Matt saw a side of her no one else at the agency ever had.

Chapter 3: Between the Sheets and the Boardroom

What began as a calculated move to save his job turned into something far more complicated. Matt and Andrea’s first kiss was electric, and their physical connection quickly escalated.

Andrea’s icy demeanor softened as their affair deepened. Meetings became less combative, and she stopped terrorizing the agency with impossible demands. Her newfound happiness spilled over into her work, resulting in higher sales and increased budgets for Beacon. Gerald, unaware of the affair, praised Matt’s “natural client management skills.”

But in public, Andrea kept up appearances. She criticized Matt ruthlessly during meetings, even as she sent him knowing glances from across the room. Their private chemistry thrived on the tension.

Chapter 4: Emotional Entanglement

It wasn’t just sex anymore. Late at night, as they lay tangled in bed, Andrea confided in Matt about the pressures of her job. “Every mistake I make feels magnified because I’m a woman,” she admitted one night. “And now that I’m older, I feel like I’m being slowly pushed out.”

Matt listened intently, offering encouragement. In turn, he opened up about his fears. “I don’t belong here,” he said. “I don’t have the instincts for this. You’re the only person who makes me feel like I might be good enough.”

Their emotional connection grew, but so did the stakes. Matt began to worry about what would happen if someone found out. Andrea, ever practical, dismissed his concerns. “No one’s going to find out unless you give them a reason to look.”

Chapter 5: Cracks in the Armor

Matt’s fiancée, Emily, started noticing the changes. He was distracted, distant, and always working late. Meanwhile, his coworkers grew suspicious of his absences. Lisa confronted him during a team outing.

“Where the hell do you keep disappearing to?” she asked.

Matt hesitated before confessing. “I’m sleeping with Andrea.”

Lisa’s jaw dropped. “Are you insane? Why?”

“I wasn’t getting anywhere here,” Matt admitted. “You guys were getting promoted, and I was stuck. I don’t want to go back to waiting tables, Lisa. I need this job.”

Lisa shook her head. “This is going to blow up in your face, Matt.”

Chapter 6: The Trip to Cannes

The agency’s latest campaign was a hit, earning a nomination for a Cannes Lion Award. Andrea and her boss planned to attend the festival in France, and Andrea secretly arranged for Matt to join them.

“Consider it a thank-you,” she said, brushing her hand against his.

But Gerald found out about the arrangement and erupted. “Are you kidding me, Matt? You let a client pay for your trip? Pack your things—you’re done.”

Andrea wasn’t spared either. Her boss chastised her for blurring professional lines, but her position was secure—for now.

When Matt reached out to Andrea for help, she turned him away. “I can’t risk my career, Matt. I’m sorry.”

Heartbroken and unemployed, Matt returned to bartending, the only job he felt he could still do.

Chapter 7: Full Circle

Months later, Matt was behind the bar, pouring drinks for a packed house, when Andrea walked in with a date. She froze when she saw him, her confident façade cracking.

Later that night, Andrea returned alone.

“I didn’t realize how much I hurt you,” she said, her voice trembling. “You didn’t deserve that. I miss you, Matt.”

Matt looked at her, the woman who had both lifted him up and torn him down. “I’m not the same guy you walked away from,” he said. “If you want me back, it has to be on my terms.”

Chapter 8: A New Beginning?

Andrea agreed to Matt’s conditions: no secrecy, no manipulation, and no power plays. Their relationship began anew, but it was different this time—balanced and honest.

Matt used what he learned from Andrea to rebuild his career, this time on his own terms. Andrea, meanwhile, learned to let her guard down and embrace vulnerability without fear.

Their story didn’t end neatly, but it was no longer about power or desperation. It was about two people who saw each other’s flaws and still chose to try again.
