Decades later, I find myself in a real-life scenario that echoes those stories. I work for a large company in Calhoun, Georgia—a small town with deep roots in tradition and pride. When I first arrived, I was technically an outsider, new to the industry and surrounded by people with decades of experience. But instead of suspicion, I was met with open arms. My colleagues and the townspeople greeted me with warmth and kindness. Running errands during my lunch break often turns into friendly conversations with folks who treat me like family.
The inspiration for my story, Calhoun Rising, came from a question that kept nagging at me: What would happen if this supportive, close-knit town faced an economic downturn? If its largest employer struggled or closed its doors, how would that affect the people who depend on it? And more importantly, who would step forward to be a voice of hope?
